Classes of 2011-2015

Since joining Regional Service Corps I have become more aware of different learning styles and ways of doing things that benefit others on different levels. Prior to my experience here I had been working with others that seemed to all have the same view points on how to approach a task. This is not conducive to working with neither children nor team members of different age groups and backgrounds. I since have learned to gear my message to reach my target audience in the most efficient way possible. I think this will be quite beneficial to working with groups in the future.

Haley de Luca, Class of 2014

I think everyone at some point in their life should be involved in a national service or local not for profit organization. It feels really good to help other people and not just be solely focused on yourself all the time. It gives you a chance to step back and get involved in your community and it’s very rewarding.

I will definitely be more involved in the community since being in AmeriCorps. It shows you how hard it is to put successful events together. I will attend more community events especially non-profit organization events.

I got a lot out of my RSC-AmeriCorps experience. I was exposed to a lot of new things that I wasn’t accustomed to like leading a team and doing speeches at RSC-AmeriCorps events.

I learned a lot about myself. I learned that I can perform under pressure when working on the member developed and lead projects. I learned that our community is very willing to help and receive help.

Jonathan Conley, Class of 2014

I am most proud of the growth I saw from students that I worked with during this year. Some students I worked with actually improved several grade levels over the course of a year. A second grade student I worked with at the beginning of the year was unable to recognize the letters of the alphabet, let alone read, when I began working with him in September. By the end of the year this same student was reading books at the second grade level. To me that is incredible, it shows that I was able to help make a significant difference in this student’s life.

Breanna Nelson, Class of 2014 and 2015

I have gained so much from my AmeriCorps experience. I have grown to be a better person and have gained valuable skills and knowledge that will help me succeed in my future career. Before I started my service year with AmeriCorps, I was shy and quiet and I had no clear plans for my future. My time with AmeriCorps has helped me to realize my potential and to see that there are so many interesting and worthwhile things I can do with my future. I have had so many amazing experiences and the memories that I've shared with my team members will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Jennifer VanTuyl, Class of 2011 and 2012

AmeriCorps has impacted my life on so many different levels. Through Love and Logic training with RSC-AmeriCorps I have learned some new parenting skills to use at home with my own child. This has made a major impact on my whole family’s life and has changed us for the better.

Alyssa Pack, Class of 2014

I’m sixty years old. I wanted to do something more with my life than what I had always done. I wanted to do something I could be proud of. Thanks to the training and opportunities I received in AmeriCorps I was able to do that.

I learned that I am capable of changing my mind, my attitudes, my actions and my reactions. I learned that people in my community are friendly, generous and charitable. I learned that others are more understanding, forgiving and not as critical as I have always feared.

Plain and simple, the time I spent in AmeriCorps has been the best time of my life so far and because of it I now believe there are even better times ahead.  I thought being involved with local not for profit organizations was a pleasure and a privilege. It gave me a much needed boost to my self esteem and a new sense of purpose in life. My time spent involved in cooperative partnerships was fun. I was a part of something good that accomplished something good.

Tim Oliver, Class of 2014 and 2015

At 70 years old, I am not thinking about career choices, but AmeriCorps has definitely impacted my life.  I am a much more imaginative and patient grandmother than I was before, and I have become aware of many resources I was unfamiliar with before my three years in AmeriCorps.  Through my experiences, I have a closer connection to what is going on in my local community and I think I am a better citizen.

Diane Hart, Class of 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014

During the pre-service training as a RSC Member I learned that my being organized and practical are the qualities of a leader and I never though it of myself that way. I am not bossy, I am a person that knows how to be in charge of projects and manage the people working with her. RSC has provided me with great leadership training that in turn has helped me build confidence in my abilities as an employee and made me more aware of the needs in my community.

Celina Fox, Class of 2013 and 2014

I joined AmeriCorps thinking this is such a great opportunity to get college money and I wouldn’t have to really do much but help out in a school, and boy was I completely wrong.  AmeriCorps changed my perspective on schooling, education, and the whole meaning of being a part of your community but mostly helped me start off my career path. I joined AmeriCorps right after I graduated high school with the career path of a Graphic Designer; it never crossed my mind that I would be able to start my career path here. I thought this was a great place to start your career as a Paraeducator, teacher and anything else on that road. I got the opportunity to show off my designing skills on a logo, from there I got even more opportunities to design more things. Before I knew it my portfolio was building as I went on with the year. I am truly grateful to start my career off here; I did not only just build skills for my career I gained confidence in myself and my work.

Marisa Vigil, Class of 2013
